LAS VEGAS, Nev. – As Clark County’s Public Administrator candidate, Edgar Velazquez is already well-known for his diligent work navigating the often heartbreaking probate system. But behind the legal filings and estate administration lies a deeply personal commitment to animal welfare that has defined much of his career.
Rescuing Pets from Abandoned Probate Properties
In his role as a private probate administrator, Velazquez has stepped into homes left behind after a loved one’s passing — properties that are frequently abandoned for months or even years. Many of these residences become occupied by squatters, turning what should be a straightforward estate process into far more complex and distressing scenes.
Time and again, he has discovered abandoned pets left without food, water, or care. While some animals belonged to the deceased, the majority have been left behind by squatters who abandon them when they move on. Over the course of his work, Velazquez estimates he has personally rescued more than 20 animals from these situations.
Heartbreaking Real-Life Rescue Stories
Examples include an emaciated puppy found dumped in the backyard of an abandoned home in April 2026, presumed left by squatters, prompting Velazquez’s team to call on Paws Patrol LV for emergency assistance. In another case, one of his associates personally took in kittens discovered in a property that had previously been the scene of a murder — again, animals abandoned by squatters.“

“These Pets Deserve a Second Chance”
These pets aren’t just property in an estate inventory,” Velazquez said. “They’re living beings who depended on someone who is no longer here — or who were cruelly discarded by opportunists. It’s our responsibility to give them a second chance.”
The animals he has encountered reflect the diverse pet population of Southern Nevada: dogs of all breeds and sizes, affectionate cats, talkative birds, even the occasional iguana and other exotic companions. Each rescue required quick thinking, coordination with local shelters, and a network of compassionate fosters and adopters to ensure the animals found safe, loving homes.
Making Animal Rescue a Priority in Clark County
Velazquez’s experiences have fueled his passion for animal safety and rescue. He has worked quietly behind the scenes with local rescue groups, transporting animals to no-kill shelters, covering initial veterinary care when necessary, and personally following up to make sure each pet transitions successfully.
Now, as he campaigns to become Clark County’s next Public Administrator, Velazquez is making animal welfare a formal priority of his office. If elected, one of his key initiatives will be establishing clear protocols for handling pets discovered in probate cases. This includes:
- Partnering with reputable, kind-hearted animal shelters and rescue organizations throughout Clark County.
- Creating a streamlined process for rapid assessment, medical care, and placement of animals.
- Training staff on compassionate animal handling and fostering connections with volunteer networks.
- Advocating for increased resources to support pet rescue within the probate system.
“Probate is already a difficult time for families,” Velazquez explained. “The last thing anyone needs is to worry about a beloved family pet being left behind. By treating animal rescue as a core part of our service, we can ease that burden and save lives at the same time.”

A Candidate with Heart and Experience
Velazquez’s dual focus on efficient estate administration and animal compassion resonates with many in the community. Supporters point to his hands-on experience and genuine care as exactly what the office needs to restore trust in a system that has faced criticism for delays and inefficiencies.
For Velazquez, the work is personal. Whether he’s reviewing legal documents or bottle-feeding a rescued kitten, his approach remains the same: treat every case with dignity, every family with respect, and every animal with the kindness they deserve.
