Democratic candidate for Clark County Public Administrator Edgar Velazquez is stepping up with a bold vision to tackle one of Southern Nevada’s biggest challenges — making homeownership more affordable in a market plagued by high prices and limited down payment resources.
As a longtime Clark County resident, licensed real estate professional, and experienced property manager, Velazquez understands the barriers local families face when trying to buy a home. He plans to use the Public Administrator’s office as a platform to partner with key organizations and dramatically expand access to down payment assistance programs.
Velazquez intends to work closely with three major initiatives to bring more funds into Clark County. These include the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco’s Middle-Income Downpayment Assistance program, which offers up to $50,000 in matching grants; the state-backed Worker Advantage Program, providing $20,000 to essential workers through Nevada’s Housing Division; and the longstanding Home Is Possible (HIP) program.
By strengthening relationships with these funding sources and local lending institutions, Velazquez aims to increase the flow of assistance dollars to first-time buyers, essential workers, and minority families struggling to enter the housing market.“For too many Clark County residents, the dream of homeownership feels out of reach,” said Velazquez. “As Public Administrator, I will champion partnerships that deliver real, tangible support — more down payment help, greater transparency, and practical solutions that put families first.”
With his hands-on background in real estate, estate administration, and community service, Velazquez is uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between government resources and the families who need them most.
