Family, Faith, and Service: The Values Driving Don Salazar’s Campaign for Public Administrator

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Long before he became a Realtor, Mortgage Loan Officer, or candidate for Clark County Public Administrator, Don Salazar was a young man from Santa Fe, New Mexico, who learned the value of hard work, family, and perseverance. Raised by a hardworking mother who supported Don and his sister despite financial challenges, he learned early that success is not handed to you. It is earned through dedication, sacrifice, and a commitment to helping others. Those lessons would guide him throughout his life and career.

Building a Life and Family in Las Vegas Since 1988

In 1988, Don and his wife, Iris, moved to Las Vegas in search of new opportunities and a better future. What began as a career move quickly became something much more. Southern Nevada became home. The couple is celebrating 39 years of marriage this year. Don describes Iris as his best friend and the heart of their family. Together, they attend Mass at St. Viator Catholic Church, support one another through life’s challenges, and remain deeply involved in the community they have called home for more than 38 years.

Over the years, they built a life centered on faith, family, and service. They raised three children, Michelle, Michael, and Karen, and later welcomed their son-in-law, Paul, and daughter-in-law, Monica, into the family. Today, they are the proud grandparents of five grandchildren: Paul Jr., Amanda, Gabriella, Ariana, and Isabella. The family that Don and Iris began building when they moved to Las Vegas has flourished over the decades. Their children established careers, raised families of their own, and remained close to home. For Don, one of life’s greatest blessings has been watching multiple generations grow together right here in Southern Nevada.

Decades of Helping Families with Homeownership and Real Estate

Professionally, Don spent decades helping Southern Nevada families achieve the dream of homeownership. Beginning his career in mortgage banking before later earning his real estate license, he dedicated himself to helping clients navigate some of the most important financial decisions of their lives. Many of those relationships extended far beyond a single transaction. Former client Travis Maxwell recalls the impact Don had on his family. “You’re in good hands with Don,” Maxwell said. “He helped my family and me when we needed it most.” Others describe him as someone who always goes the extra mile to help people, whether or not there is anything to gain in return. Those experiences have shaped Don’s perspective on the importance of protecting families and preserving the assets they spend a lifetime building.

Why Don Salazar Is Running for Clark County Public Administrator

As he speaks with voters across Clark County, he often finds that many residents are unfamiliar with the responsibilities of the Public Administrator’s office. The position is responsible for managing estates when no family member or trusted individual is available to do so. For Don, the role is deeply connected to the values that have guided his own life. “When people work hard to build something for their families, they want to know it will be protected,” he said. “Every family deserves dignity, respect, and professionalism during difficult times.” That belief is one of the reasons he decided to run for office. While many candidates focus on politics, Don often talks about people, families facing difficult circumstances, seniors planning for the future, and individuals who want peace of mind knowing their loved ones will be cared for.

A Life of Faith, Family, and Community Service

When he’s not working or attending community events, Don enjoys spending time with his family, working on his cars, and relaxing with his dog, Lucky. Friends and family describe him as dependable, compassionate, and someone who is always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether attending a grandchild’s sporting event, volunteering in the community, or helping a client through a challenging situation, his priorities have remained remarkably consistent throughout his life.

As Clark County voters prepare to choose their next Public Administrator, Don Salazar hopes to bring the same values that have defined his personal and professional life for decades: faith, family, service, and a genuine commitment to helping others. For Don, public service is not about politics. It’s about people.
